PASSAR President Duane Miller brought greetings to fellow compatriots informing us of activities/events occurring at both the state and national levels. Willy Frankfort, President of the Peters Creek Historical Society in Venetia and curator of the Museum of Westward Expansion enlightened the attendees about the Peters Creek Rangers and Militia involved in the expansion of the frontier from 1760 to 1860. President Ken Gorton presented William “Wild Willy” Frankfort with a Certificate of Recognition, recognizing the contributions that the Historical Society provides to the community in the preservation of history, providing educational programs, and maintaining historical sites. Wild Willy is a skilled speaker, storyteller, writer, and artist. Since 1991 his interest in local history has led him to research and reproduce historically accurate items from colonial America. He is active as a re-enactor and also teaches scrimshaw in the Teaching History Through the Arts program for Pricketts Fort. He is a Certified Master specializing in carvings of cow horns. His reproductions of period exhibits are on display at various museums and used in numerous historical movies.
